Youth Leadership Foundation - D.C.
Business/organization type:
The Youth Leadership Foundation [YLF] was founded in 1997 to give promising youth in Washington, D.C. an opportunity to have a relationship with positive adult role models. Our signature programs – the Program for Academic & Leadership Skills [PALS] for young women and the Tenley Achievement Program [TAP] for young men – train young professionals and college-aged men and women to build character and mentor 3rd-12th graders throughout the school-year and summer, with proven impact. In the last two decades, we have served well-over 4,000 students. 97% of them have graduated high school; 80% have graduated from university, community college or trade school; and 90% refer to their experience with a mentor as life-changing. In a 2017 comparison study, YLF students outperformed their school peers on measures predictive of future leadership and college readiness.
