Our camps are ideal for kids who love to tinker, experiment, invent and code. It's all fun and games until it gets messy... then it's awesome!

Grades 1-2

To Infinity and Beyond! | June 2-6 & July 14-18

Explore the solar system like never before! Gear up as a outer space explorer where you can design your own space suit, create an other worldly space station, and sail away to explore planets and their moons.

Grossology | June 9-13

Join us as we explore the icky, the sticky, the gooey and the gross side of science! Create awesome slimes with chemistry, explore the biology of owl pellets, and use anatomy to create a working model of your digestive system!

 
 
 

Superhero Science | June 16-20 & July 21-25

Heroes Assemble! Create your own character throughout the week as you learn about the engineering, technology and science behind your favorite fictional superheros, like building an invisible plane and slinging spider webs. Finish the week by learning about real STEAM superheroes in the world around us!

Tiny Tinkerers | June 23-27 & July 28-August 1

Join the Maker movement as we engineer toys, machines and more from the craziest of things. Use physics to make things fly, create circuits that light up, and even take apart toys to see what’s inside!

Summer Science | June 30-July 2

Pop, Fizz, Bang- It’s time for some summer science! Explore the chemistry behind fireworks, learn how to make giant bubbles, and explore why we have seasons like summer.

Science of Art | July 7-11

Unlock your creativity as we explore the science behind art! Use chemistry to create bubbling paints and glowing art, explore the physics of pendulum paintings, and even try out traditional art and crafting techniques from hundreds of years ago!

Video Games Galore | June 2-6 & July 14-18

Take block coding to new heights as you create your own videogames. From plot points to playthroughs, bring your gaming ideas to life. You can even design and build your own game controller!

Junior NASA Training | June 9-13 & July 21-25

Whether you want to be an astronaut in space or an astronomer who studies it, this is the camp for you! Exercise your engineering skills as you design rovers, learn how to use real telescopes, and train to go to space.

 

Crazy Chemists | June 16-20

H2Oh, yeah! Explore the mysteries of chemistry as you create awesome reactions, see magical color changes, and mix up some fun along the way. With over 20 different experiments, you’ll be crazy about chemistry after this camp!

Superhero Science | June 23-27

Heroes Assemble! Art Smart | July 28-August 1

Unlock your creativity as we explore the science behind art! Explore the chemistry behind mixing paints, discover the physics behind color theory and cameras, and even try out traditional art and crafting techniques from hundreds of years ago!

Maker Magic: Woodworking 101 | June 2-6

Jump into the wonderful world of wood! Get handy with saws, drills, and hammers as you craft boxes, birdhouses, and more. You’ll even have the opportunity to learn from our Exhibit Technicians how we build exhibits and see how to use the professional tools in our shop!

Animation Station | June 9-13

From flipbooks to computers, venture into the world of storytelling with pictures. Throughout the week you’ll learn historic techniques for creating animated images, the basics of character creation and storyboarding, and wrap up the week creating your own modern stop-motion animation movies!

 
 
 

Tech Dive | June 16-20

Do you love inventing, tinkering and programming? Take a dive into the world of programming, robotics, and micro-controllers as you learn computational thinking, basics of coding, and building simple autonomous machines using engineering!

Inventors Workshop | June 23-27

Are you always coming up with ideas for inventions? This is the place for you! Learn important skills like 3D modeling, circuitry, and construction. Then, explore principles of the engineering design process, rapid prototype, and end the week with an invention showcase for your friends and family.

Summer Science | June 30-July 2

We’ve got some sizzlin’ science for you as we explore how heat affects chemical reactions, make colorful fireworks from scratch, and solder a mechanical bubble blowing machine!

Circuitry Lab | July 7-11

Does electricity spark your interest? Learn how electronics work, program micro-controllers, design wearable technology, and learn to solder like a professional as you create your own handheld electronic game!

Advanced Artists | July 14-18

We’re full STEAM ahead for art! Discover the science behind artistic techniques and metallurgy, explore modern and traditional technologies in art, and see how math holds the secret to perfect proportions. You’ll even have the opportunity to work with professional artists to create your own art show for family and friends!

What will camp look like for my learner?

 
  • Camp features a balance of hands-on experiments, activities, and crafts mixed in with age-appropriate breaks, play time, and STEAM themed games. Generally, older campers experience about 1 “Brain Break” per 1 hour of instruction time as well as a 30-minute lunch break and 30-minute museum exploration time. Younger students will have more frequent breaks.• While lessons feature many TEKS aligned activities, the primary focus in camps in placed on the scientific process and inquiry-based learning. Campers will use their own observations, questions, and discoveries to guide their learning journey!

Who is with the campers?

 
  • All camps are led by experienced certified teachers or experienced museum informal science educators.• Teaching assistants are all experienced in working in informal STEM camp environments and go through education/inquiry-based learning training.Students are always with instructors and will NEVER be alone in a private space with a single adult.

What do we bring?

 
  • • Campers SHOULD bring:
    –> Snacks and a sack lunch (Full Day Camps Only)
    –> Reusable water bottle
    –> Any medications or Epi-Pens (Please give directly to the Camp Manager or Instructor)
    –> Closed-toe shoes for lab and/or workshop safety.•
  • Campers should NOT bring:
    –> Backpacks or large bags
    –> Toys, phones, tablets, or handheld gaming devices
    –> Money
    –> Food containing nuts or nut products.

What time is camp?

 

• FULL DAY: 9AM – 4PM
• Doors will open for drop off at 8:50AM

• Students will be available for pick up by 3:50PM
• Campers picked up after 4:10PM will be charged a $1/minute Late Pick-Up Fee

How much does camp cost?

 

Members: $350 | Nonmembers: $400

• Unfortunately, our software does not currently allow us to offer discounts on multiple bookings (aka- sibling discounts).

Can I cancel/get a refund?

 

Yes, you may cancel your Summer Camp reservation. However, refunds are given on a sliding scale based on advance notification of cancellation:

o 2 Weeks in Advance = 100% Refund

o 1 Week in Advance = 50% Refund
o Less than 1 Week Notice = 0% Refund

What is your sick policy for camp?

 
Staff and students are both asked to stay home from camp while testing positive for or while symptomatic with any contagious illness, including but not limited to COVID-19, influenza, RSV, colds, and stomach bugs.

Which age group should I select for my learner?

 

• Please select the grade level in which your student will be entering in Fall 2023.

• If your learner is taking courses at different or higher levels than their peers, we recommend choosing what most closely aligns with their age, as it is easier on many children’s social skills in informal learning environments.

Is there anything I need to do before camp begins?

 

• Please download the Camp Health Form and complete it for all your campers. This form MUST be returned before your student is allowed into the camp for safety reasons.

• Double check that the food you are sending is NUT FREE.

• Make sure you send your learner in clothes you are comfortable with getting messy.

• Communicate any health or medical concerns directly to our Camp Manager by emailing us at camp.admin@scitechdiscovery.org.

Do you have a behavior or disciplinary plan?

 

• We believe in ensuring that all students feel safe and nurtured within their classroom environment. This means offering age-appropriate support for conflict or disruptive behavior.

• Instructors may use techniques such as:

o Utilizing a “Cool Down Corner” where students can rest on a rug and use toys or pillows to calm down after an incident.

o Having a guided discussion about how they are feeling, identifying emotions, and reflecting on actions.

o Assigning students to different groups who struggle with communicating/cooperating with each other.

• Intentional violence is NOT tolerated at Sci-Tech. If a camper actively hurts another student, the issue will be immediately addressed, and parents will be notified.

• If a behavior issue cannot be remedied after discussion with parents/guardians or if there is physical harm/threat of harm to staff or students, Sci-Tech reserves the right to dismiss a camper from the program without a refund.

My learner is neurodivergent/has special needs. Can you accommodate them?

 

• While students of all abilities are welcome to participate in camps, please note that Sci-Tech staff is not specifically trained to work with children with special needs and cannot provide one-on-one care.

• You may opt to provide your child with an aide during camp to assist them. This could be anyone from a trained professional to a sibling, so long as they are familiar with meeting your student’s needs.

• If you have questions about whether our camps may be a good fit for your student, please feel free to reach out at camp.admin@scitechdiscovery.org.

My child does not speak English. Can they still attend camp?

 

• Due to safety working with chemicals, equipment, and other dangerous materials, we do require that all campers understand and speak conversational English or have a translator or interpreter present.
