In this engaging self-pace course, students will use the "Question Family" (Who, What, When, Where, Why, How) to easily identify the essential elements of any story:
Question Story Elements
- Who are the characters? Character Traits/Character Action
- What is happening? Plots/Conflicts/Solutions
- When does the story take place? Sequence/Time/Era
- Where is the setting? Setting in Stories
- Why did the author write the story? Topics/Theme/Lessons in stories
- How was the story written? Author's Point of View/Author's Purpose
-
Build Reading Independence: Your child will become a "story detective," gaining the tools to independently decode plot structures (from exposition to resolution) and identify the physical and social settings of any book.
-
Critical Thinking: We move beyond the surface to explore why authors write, helping students recognize different perspectives and the underlying messages or themes in literature.
-
Hands-on Proof of Learning: By the end of this 8-week course, learners will have a portfolio of assignments and a final project that illustrates their complete understanding of how stories are built.
