All ages can celebrate Earth Day by participating in a variety of activities. Little ones and their families can catch a special Earth Day story time inside the Library at 11 a.m. At noon and again at 2 p.m., gather outside for ladybug releases to witness these colorful critters find new homes in the surrounding environment. Teens and adults can paint their own flowerpot from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visit booths, make crafts, learn how to landscape with native plants, or go on Earth Day-themed scavenger hunts any time during the event.
The event will also feature community partners, such as Ross’ Rowdy Bees offering pollinator education on how to treat bees as sweet as honey. Learn about recycling with the City’s solid waste provider Republic Services and enjoy a touch-a-truck experience from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dallas Makerspace will give demonstrations of recycled clay art and raku firing, a unique Japanese ceramics technique. And finally, tour the Josey Ranch Pocket Prairie with the Denton County Master Gardeners’ Association to learn about the native species that thrive there.
Don’t miss the chance to see recyclable materials repurposed into masterpieces for the annual Recycle Art Contest. Attendees will vote for the contest winners onsite, day-of. Interested in participating? Students in K-12 enrolled in any Carrollton school, plus those who are homeschooled or in private school who reside in City limits, have until Friday, April 12 to register for the contest and bring their creation to the Earth Day Celebration for a chance to win fun prizes.
The celebration event will be sensory friendly with a quiet space available inside the Library. Children and adults can take a break with coloring, sensory toys, and noise-cancelling headphones.
Earth Day is an annual event held every April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First organized in 1970, the celebration now includes a wide range of events and activities coordinated globally. Join Carrollton in working together to make the planet a cleaner, more sustainable place for future generations, starting in the community’s very own backyard.
