Academics and Fun!

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 07/26/2019
Several hours of academics, custom-tailored to each child's interests are combined with a wide variety of fun activities: swimming, LEGO Robotics, art and cooking projects, roller skating, petting zoo, a trip to the circus and lots more. Friendly staff and small groups ensure an adventure-filled but safe summer for campers from three to fourteen years old.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

During the summer months, Oak Crest Private School is a whirlwind of activities that combine academics and fun where children can have lots of new experiences. We feature:
• Swimming every week
• A huge variety of field trips
• LEGO robotics
• Cooking, arts and crafts
• STEM activities: hands-on chemistry and learning to code
• Customized academic programs

And we do this all in:
• Small, friendly groups
• A safe environment
• For ages 3½ to 13 years old

Academics
On almost every day, students spend some time working on academics. Our campers do not suffer from backsliding during the summer academically! Individualized programs allow children to advance at their own pace and to focus on their interests. They can advance as soon as they have mastered the materials being learned. This makes learning fun and summer an excellent time to improve skills or to explore new subjects.

Our youngest campers are involved in lots of hands-on, practical learning activities. Our younger school-age children typically work on their phonics, handwriting and reading skills. Math skills can also be drilled and computer skills can be introduced.

Older children can choose from a wide selection of courses ranging from reading improvement and study skills through science and geography.

Elementary school age children will also have the opportunity to participate in a weekly science day, where students will be led through hands-on experiments intended to ignite curiosity and teach basic science principles. They will be introduced to writing computer code and spend a part of each day becoming proficient at typing.

A Huge Variety of Fun Activities
The rest of the day is spent in many different fun enrichment activities. Summers at Oak Crest are packed with outings, art projects, cooking and crafts. Students go swimming, roller-skating, ice-skating, visit a petting zoo, explore great playgrounds and more. All groups are small, allowing children to receive close supervision and individual care at all times.
Elementary and middle school age children will get the opportunity to participate in LEGO Robotics activities each week. This activity is guided by one of our teachers who has worked with the University of Texas in their LEGO Robotics program and judged LEGO Robotics competitions.
Small Friendly Groups
Since we keep our groups small, children find it easy to make friends. Each child receives a lot of individual attention. Our kind, experienced teachers make sure that the children are safe and have a good time.
