Kids' Spring Break Mini-Camps- Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

Each mini-camp explores a different topic. Preregistration required. Participants should dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on uneven gravel. Participants may wish to bring water in a carrier. Pre-registration is required.

COVID-19 Impact
  • Masks are required for all campers & staff.
  • Social distancing will be practiced in each camp room and when outside as much as possible.
  • A health screening that may include a temperature check will be done at check-in.
  • Only staff & campers will be allowed into the building/classroom areas and a one-way path with will be used for drop-off/pick-up.
  • All touch items will be single use and disinfected between uses (pencils, markers, scissors, etc.).
  • High touch areas will be disinfected before and after each camp.
  • Hand sanitizer and hand soap will be available at all times.
Kindergarten – 6th Grade

(Minimum age 5 years on September 1, 2021.) In addition to exploring the day’s topic, each mini-camp will include a hike outside on the sanctuary, a visit from a live animal ambassador, and a take-home project.

  • Monday, 3/8: Reptile Wrap Up register 
    Reptiles include some of the most recognized and misunderstood animals.  Find out more about these amazing critters and meet some of the reptiles that make the Heard their home.
  • Tuesday, 3/9: Eggs: Cracking the Code register
    Spring: it’s eggstraordinary! Eggs are laid by many different animals and come in variety of shapes and sizes. Explore the who, what, and where about these life starting shells.
  • Wednesday, 3/10: Mammal Babies register
    Furry baby animals and spring just go hand and hand. Learn about what makes a mammal a mammal and which ones have their young this time of year.
  • Thursday, 3/11: Wetland Wonders register
    Wetlands are known for being one of nature’s busiest nurseries. Check out what’s going on in our wetlands this time of year and why they are so important.
3rd – 9th Grade
  • Friday, 3/12: Keeper Jr. register
    Learn about what it takes to care for the museum’s animal ambassadors. See what happens behind-the-scenes and meet some of our animal ambassadors in person (note: animals will not be touched). You will also get to help prepare food and/or enrichment items for some of our animals – just like our animal care staff does.
