Math Contest Camp 5-6: Arithmetic and Logic

This summer program is designed for students who have completed Beast Academy Levels 4 or 5, or an equivalently advanced math course, and are training for math competitions like Math Kangaroo 5-6 and MOEMS Division E. Note that 5th and 6th grade students take the same contest in Math Kangaroo and 6th grade students may elect to compete in MOEMS Division E or Division M.

The topical focus of this camp is Arithmetic & Logic, and the instruction during camp emphasizes the strategies students may use to solve sophisticated problems involving these topics. The content of this camp builds on core skills learned between Math 4 and 5; so for the best student experience, we strongly recommend students assess if they are ready for AoPS Math 5 or Prealgebra before enrolling in this camp.

Time Commitment: This 2-week course meets Monday through Friday for three hours each day.

Students tackle challenging contest-level problems focused on number theory and logical reasoning, and build contest-taking skills and strategies through daily practice contests.

• Skills: Fraction & Decimals, Number Bases, Modular Arithmetic, Deductive Reasoning, 2D & 2D Spatial Reasoning

Students practice using important concepts & tools from number theory and logic to solve challenging problems related to these topics.

During each lesson, students participate in mock individual and team competitions to build the mathematical skills and test-taking experience that will prepare them for key events in the upcoming school year.
