As educators, we know that you’re always looking for new ways to develop your students’ skills and instill a love of learning. So, as one of our nearest schools we are pleased to offer you the chance to do just that, by participating in our 6th annual Explore Horizons Writers’ Award, and FREE skills-based writing workshops. Whether your students are gifted and talented or finding things more challenging, our short-story competition is designed to build creative writing skills, and inspire children to find the fun in writing. Between January 21st and April 1st students aged 5-14 are invited to write a short story of no more than 500 words on a given theme, to be judged by a top children’s author. Previous judges include the Texas Bluebonnet listed, Polly Holyoke, and top Dallas-based author Tani Lamb. What’s more, the winning school gets $500 worth of books and the top student receives a trophy, a Kindle Fire HD, and the honor of having their story published online, and brought to life by an illustrator.Taking part in our creative writing competition is simple. The best way to get involved is to schedule a free, 1 hour writing workshop at your school. Our engaging workshop is designed to inspire students to find pleasure in producing their own extended written pieces, which can be entered into the Explore Horizons Writers’ Award. We know that STAAR tests are high on the agenda at this time of year, and our workshop will enable students to practice some of the skills within the STAAR writing assessments. However, our main objective is to create a captivating and collaborative learning experience for students to really find the fun in writing, and leave our workshop feeling inspired and excited to write. Our workshop will be a welcome break from the stress of STAAR testing, and give students the chance to really use their imaginations and take their creative writing to the next level.Alternatively, if your school doesn’t have an hour to spare, we would also be happy to deliver a 15 minute assembly and provide entry forms for your whole school.
